This series of images is the result of two impulses. The first is to bring dream sequences to light, to openly deal with the reflections of past experiences tucked away in the subconscious. However, they are not all about the past. They have much to do with the irrational and self-contradictory behavior we display in everyday life, which might for all intents and purposes be the stuff of nightmares. The second impulse is to revisit the style and aesthetic of the early surrealist photographers. I was looking for highly stylized, contrasty imagery, with a sense of beauty of underlying eroticism that I believe was the hallmark of the surrealist movement. In all my images I have strived for the whimsical, beautiful paradox, which touches upon fear and satire alike.
